Introducing Gilan province

Gilan is a historical region near the Sefidroud river delta, which was the homeland of the Gilan people in ancient times. Its current Iranian inhabitants who speak the Gilaki language are called Gilak. The land of Gilan is in a good condition in terms of having historical books, and the events of this region have been recorded in a relatively detailed and orderly manner since 880 AD. The inhabitants of this land, especially the Dilmians, had a great influence on the history of their neighbors and even on the caliphate. Archaeological findings in Gilan show the existence of three thousand-year-old civilizations such as Marlik and Amlesh, whose ancient works tell about the skill of the builders and the wealth of the people of this land. Until the 7th century AD, Gilan was under the influence of successive Achaemenid, Seleucid, Parthian and Sasanian empires that ruled over Iran.
